Indonesia Appoints Suahasil Nazara as New Finance Minister, Amidst Economic Policy Continuity Hopes

President Prabowo Subianto has appointed Suahasil Nazara as the new Minister of Finance on September 14, 2026, at the State Palace in Jakarta. Suahasil replaces Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, who previously held the position. The appointment was made based on Presidential Decree Number 97/P of 2026 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of the Minister of Finance of the Merah Putih Cabinet for the remaining term of 2024-2029. During the inauguration ceremony, Prabowo guided Suahasil in taking the oath of office. Suahasil pledged to perform his duties to the best of his ability and uphold ethical standards in his role as Minister of Finance. "By God, I swear that I will be loyal to the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia of 1945 and will execute all laws and regulations as justly as possible for the service of my nation and state," Suahasil stated while reciting the oath. "That in carrying out the duties of office, I will uphold the ethics of the office and work to the best of my ability with a full sense of responsibility," he added. Following the oath-taking, Suahasil signed the minutes of appointment as Minister of Finance. President Prabowo, along with other ministers of the Merah Putih Cabinet, then extended their congratulations to Suahasil. Previously, Prabowo appointed Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa as Minister of Finance on September 8, 2025, succeeding Sri Mulyani Indrawati in a reshuffle of the Merah Putih Cabinet. The handover from Sri Mulyani to Purbaya at the Ministry of Finance was recorded on September 9, 2025.
