Infrastructure Development in Cambodia's Kampong Thom Province Boosts Local Livelihoods

Infrastructure development is steadily progressing in Don Kam Bit Commune, Sandan District, Kampongသမ Province, located in northeastern Cambodia. On July 21, 2026, Major General Som Son, Commander of the Kampong Thom Provincial Military Operations Area, inspected the condition of a new gravel road and the progress of a concrete bridge under construction in the Ochh Chrey area within the commune. The concrete bridge, with a length of 16 meters, a height of 3.50 meters, and a roadway width of 8.6 meters, is slated for completion by the end of August 2026. This bridge, a generous donation from Prime Minister Hun Manet, is set to resolve the long-standing challenge of crossing the Ochh Chrey River for local residents. Currently, road development spanning over 19 kilometers of gravel surfacing is underway in the commune. Approximately 5 kilometers of this road have been completed, with another 6 kilometers, along with the bridge, still under construction. Previously, crossing the Ochh Chrey River involved precarious log bridges, only suitable for foot traffic, and raft services for motorcycles and bicycles, posing significant risks during strong currents and hindering the movement of people and the transport of agricultural produce to markets. The construction of this new road and bridge is being warmly welcomed by residents, who anticipate a substantial improvement in their mobility and the smooth transportation of their harvests. The community has expressed profound gratitude to Prime Minister Hun Manet for spearheading these infrastructure enhancements. This development is part of the Cambodian government's broader initiative to strengthen the foundational infrastructure and foster economic growth in rural areas. It is expected to play a crucial role in improving logistics and revitalizing the local economy, particularly in agricultural regions. In the context of Cambodia's foreign relations, while infrastructure investment often involves significant direct investment and aid from China, domestic infrastructure development remains a key priority for the government.
