Cambodia Reaffirms Dengue Fever Prevention Importance with Community Campaign

Phnom Penh, Cambodia – September 9, 2026 – Mrs. Bun Vannndy, Secretary of State of the Secretariat of State of Civil Aviation and Vice-Chair of the Women's Mobilization Working Group of the Sampov Pun Town Working Group in Kandal Province, emphasized that dengue fever remains a health issue that requires the attention and continuous prevention efforts of all citizens. She stated that preventing and controlling dengue fever is not solely the responsibility of medical professionals or local authorities, but a shared duty of every citizen, every family, and the entire community. Prevention, she noted, should begin at home by cleaning the environment, eliminating stagnant water, eradicating mosquito breeding sites, and maintaining regular hygiene. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the campaign to disseminate, prevent, and control dengue fever and promote community health care in Prek Speu Sangkat, Sampov Pun Town, Kandal Province, on the morning of September 9, 2026, Mrs. Bun Vannndy said that the campaign was organized with the aim of raising public awareness about preventive and control measures for dengue fever, promoting environmental cleaning, eliminating stagnant water and mosquito breeding sites, and enhancing health care within families and communities. This initiative is conducted under the support and guidance of H.E. Dr. Mao Havannall, Minister in charge of the Secretariat of State of Civil Aviation and Head of the Sampov Pun Town Working Group, who consistently pays attention to, supports, and encourages the working group in serving the people and implementing activities that bring tangible benefits to the locality and community. Concurrently, Mrs. Bun Vannndy expressed gratitude to Calmette Hospital for demonstrating its willingness and providing support to collaborate with the Sampov Pun Town Working Group in this community health promotion activity. This collaboration is expected to contribute significantly as an additional force for educating, disseminating information, and providing healthcare to the public. On this occasion, the Secretary of State appealed to the citizens in all five Sangkats of Sampov Pun Town to participate in cleaning the environment, eliminating stagnant water and mosquito breeding sites, and regularly implementing dengue fever prevention and control measures, as well as helping to disseminate this information further to their respective villages and communes. Mrs. Bun Vannndy further highlighted the significant meaning of the campaign, stating that it represents a mobilization of strength and participation from all parties, including the working group, medical teams, health centers, local authorities, village chiefs, law enforcement forces, youth groups, Red Cross students, scouts, artists, and other stakeholders. She urged that the spirit of participation demonstrated today should not end with this single-day event but should continue as practical action in the communities, leading to a cleaner environment, increased public awareness, and a healthier community.
