Cambodia Braces for Tropical Depression 'Dolphin', Rain and Thunderstorms Expected

Cambodia is expected to be influenced by a new tropical depression, the 13th of the season, named 'Dolphin' (T2613), from July 28 to August 3, 2026. This phenomenon will bring rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms to several provinces across the country. According to an announcement by the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, Tropical Depression 'Dolphin' developed from a low-pressure system over the Western Pacific Ocean. It is influencing the southwest monsoon regime that blows over the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River basin, the Cambodian Sea, and the Kingdom of Cambodia. However, the Kingdom of Cambodia is not directly in the path of 'Dolphin'. The ministry's announcement indicates that during the period from July 28 to August 3, 2026, the weather conditions will lead to the following probabilities of rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms: In the plain areas, including the provinces of Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Kandal, Takeo, Svay Rieng, and Phnom Penh capital, approximately 40% of the land area may experience rain with strong winds and thunderstorms. In the plateau areas, including the provinces of Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, the Dangrek mountain range, and the Cardamom mountain range, approximately 50% of the land area may experience rain with strong winds and thunderstorms. In the coastal areas, including the provinces of Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and the Bokor mountain range, approximately 70% of the land area may experience rain with strong winds and thunderstorms. Coastal areas can expect rough seas with an average wave height of at least 0.50 meters and a maximum average height of 1.75 meters.
