Vietnam to Build Foundation for Low-Altitude Economy, Digital Infrastructure is Key

Vietnam is accelerating the development of digital infrastructure as the foundation for realizing the "low-altitude economy," which holds new economic development potential. This strategy aims to efficiently operate a new economic space by leveraging new technologies such as drones (UAVs). The low-altitude economy primarily refers to economic activities in sectors like logistics, agriculture, surveillance, and entertainment that utilize unmanned aerial vehicles such as drones. In Vietnam, pilot development of the low-altitude economy, involving approximately 6,000 drone flights, is underway in provinces like Dien Bien. This is part of efforts to overcome geographical constraints and achieve efficient service delivery. Advanced digital infrastructure is indispensable for the formation and efficient operation of such an economic space. Specifically, high-speed communication networks, data management systems, and AI-powered operational management systems are required. The Vietnamese economic sector is also advancing cooperation with Japan, with examples like the Vietnam Low-Altitude Economy Alliance partnering with the Japan Association of Unmanned Aircraft for UAV and drone development. This indicates an intention to promote the low-altitude economy through international technological cooperation. The Vietnamese government views this low-altitude economy as a "golden period" and is committed to actively supporting its development. Infrastructure development and technological adoption in this field are expected to become important indicators of Vietnam's international competitiveness in strategic advanced technology sectors in the future.
