Phnom Penh to Renovate Japanese-Donated Site into Public Park
Phnom Penh City Hall announced plans to renovate a tree park in Prey Lva Village, Chom Chao II Commune, Por Senchey District, donated by Japanese citizens, into a space for public recreation and exercise to promote health. Completion is targeted for late 2026 to early 2027.
Phnom Penh City Hall is proceeding with plans to renovate a tree park located in Prey Lva Village, Chom Chao II Commune, Por Senchey District, into a public space for citizens to enjoy walking and exercising for health promotion. This park was donated by Japanese citizens, and improvements will be made in line with the donor's wishes. In the afternoon of July 13, 2026, HE Khuong Sreng, Governor of Phnom Penh, led a team of technical officials and district and commune authorities to inspect the site. He instructed that improvements be made, including additional tree planting and the renovation of some infrastructure. HE Khuong Sreng stated that the location must be arranged to be beautiful, with some trees to be replanted and the bathrooms to be renovated. The existing waterways will be stocked with fish such as Rohu and Rohu carp, among other species. Additionally, the entrance road lined with large trees will be paved with concrete to a width of 8 meters. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026 or early 2027. After the renovation, the Phnom Penh City Hall will inaugurate it for citizens to come and enjoy walking and exercising for their health, in accordance with the wishes of the donor. HE Khuong Sreng clarified that the site has an area of over 3 hectares and that trash bins and benches for resting will also be provided. It should be noted that the Phnom Penh City Hall recently received the aforementioned tree park from Mrs. Michiko Kanzaki, wife of Mr. Koji Kanzaki, a Japanese national. The handover agreement was signed by Mrs. Michiko Kanzaki and the Phnom Penh City Hall on May 31, 2022.
