Phnom Penh to Renovate Over 3 Hectares of Green Space for Public Recreation
Phnom Penh City is proceeding with plans to renovate over 3 hectares of green space in Chamkarmon 2 district into a recreational area for public leisure and health. Based on a donated plot from Japan, infrastructure improvements and tree planting will be undertaken, aiming for completion by year-end or early next year.
Phnom Penh City is planning to renovate a green space of over 3 hectares located in Prey Lvea village, Chamkarmon 2 commune, Sen Sok district, into a recreational area for citizens to enjoy walking and exercising for their health. On the afternoon of July 13, 2026, Phnom Penh Governor Khuang Sreng led a delegation of relevant officials and authorities to inspect the site. He instructed that the area be improved with additional tree planting and infrastructure upgrades. Governor Khuang Sreng stated that the location needs to be made beautiful, with some trees to be replanted and toilets to be renovated. Existing canals will also be stocked with fish such as the Rohu and other species. Furthermore, the entrance road, already lined with large trees, will be paved with concrete to a width of 8 meters. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026 or early 2027. Once renovated, the Phnom Penh administration will officially open it for citizens to visit for leisure and exercise, in line with the wishes of the donor. Governor Khuang Sreng also confirmed that the site, spanning over 3 hectares, will be equipped with trash bins and benches for people to relax. It is noteworthy that the Phnom Penh administration received this green space from Ms. Michiko Kanzaki, wife of the late Mr. Koji Kanzaki, a Japanese national.
