Vietnamese PM Meets Leaders at BRICS Summit, Seeks Multilateral Cooperation

Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung attended the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India. During the summit, on September 13, Prime Minister Hung held separate meetings with the leaders of Russia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia, as well as United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. During the summit, China proposed five initiatives to further deepen cooperation within the BRICS bloc. Prime Minister Hung participated in and spoke at a session on "Self-reliance, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainable Development," presenting Vietnam's perspective. Under its one-party system, Vietnam has pursued market-oriented reforms (Doi Moi policy), achieving remarkable economic growth. In recent years, amidst escalating US-China tensions, Vietnam has emerged as a key destination for foreign investment seeking supply chain diversification. Vietnam's active participation in multilateral forums like BRICS is viewed as part of its diplomatic strategy to enhance its international influence and seek new opportunities for economic development.
