Indonesia's Ministry of Home Affairs held an award ceremony in Balikpapan to honor regional governments in Kalimantan for their outstanding achievements. The event aims to recognize local governments' contributions to the public and encourage further development.

The Ministry of Home Affairs held the "2026 Regional Government Prestigious Award Batch II Kalimantan Region" to honor regional governments that have achieved excellent accomplishments in the Kalimantan region, in Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan Province. This award is an expression of appreciation from the Ministry of Home Affairs for regional governments that have served the public well and maximally. The event was organized by the Institute of Domestic Governance (IPDN) under the Ministry of Home Affairs. IPDN Rector Halilul Khairi stated that the awarding was based on the facts and achievements of the regional governments. "With the selection for this award, they can convey to the public that I have done something and I have received an award," he said. Khairi emphasized that the appreciation can be a trigger for the awarded regional governments to do their best, not to feel content or final. "Those who receive this award do not mean they have reached the final point. This is just a trigger," he said. He added that the Ministry of Home Affairs' awards are merely a way for the central government to recognize that they have worked well, but the most essential recognition they seek is from their people. The award assessment categories include the implementation of the 3 million housing program, access to health services, access to education services, and waste management and a green environment. The "2026 Regional Government Prestigious Award Batch II Kalimantan Region" is planned to be attended by regional heads from all over Kalimantan. The event also involves five governors and provincial-level Regional Leadership Coordination Forums (Forkopimda) from all of Kalimantan, as well as regents and mayors. The agenda also includes a coordination meeting (rakor) between provincial Forkopimda and the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam). This meeting is expected to strengthen coordination between regional governments and the central government in facing challenges.
