Cambodian Red Cross Extends $100K to China, Boosts Regional Disaster Aid Support

The Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) has decided to provide a second donation of US$100,000 to the Red Cross Society of China to support ongoing disaster relief operations following natural disasters in the country. A symbolic handover ceremony took place Wednesday morning at the Chinese Embassy in Phnom Penh. CRC Secretary-General Pum Chantinie presented the donation on behalf of CRC President Samdech Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen to Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Wang Wenbin. The funds will be processed through standard banking procedures. This marks the second US$100,000 humanitarian grant provided by the CRC to China, following an initial donation in August 2026. In addition, the CRC has contributed US$100,000 through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to assist the Nepal Red Cross Society in responding to severe flooding along the Nepal-China border. Delivering warm regards and solidarity from the CRC President to the affected Chinese public, H.E. Pum Chantinie emphasised that despite its modest size, the contribution reflects the deep sympathy and shared burden of the Cambodian leadership and people. In reply, Ambassador Wang expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that the CRC has extended aid twice in just over two months. He highlighted that the previous donation was widely publicised in China, earning deep appreciation from the public. Recalling past joint humanitarian efforts, including Chinese diplomatic aid to flood victims in Cambodia's Thbong Khmum province, he stressed that mutual support in difficult times transcends the monetary value of aid. During the meeting, the CRC also proposed expanding cooperation with the Guangxi Branch of the Red Cross Society of China to provide first-aid training for Cambodian staff. The CRC currently operates first-aid networks across all 25 Cambodian capital and provinces. Ambassador Wang pledged full support to facilitate this initiative and reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to standing by the CRC for future humanitarian needs. By K. Rithy Reak
