Cambodia Warns of Heavy Rain, Strong Winds Amid Tropical Storm Influence

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has warned of widespread rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds across Cambodia from August 5 to 15, due to the combined influence of Tropical Storm Kujira (T2614) and Typhoon Dolphin (T2613). While neither storm is expected to make landfall in the Kingdom, their impact is anticipated to strengthen the southwest monsoon. According to the Ministry's announcement released on Wednesday morning, lowland provinces including Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Thbong Khmum, Prey Veng, Kandal, Takeo, Svay Rieng, and Phnom Penh are expected to receive rainfall covering approximately 50 percent of their areas. Highland provinces such as Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Rattanakiri, and Mondulkiri, along with the Dangrek and Cardamom mountain ranges, could see rainfall across 60 percent of their areas, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Coastal provinces including Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, and Kep, as well as the Bokor mountain area, are forecast to receive the heaviest rainfall, covering up to 70 percent of their areas. Sea waves are expected to range from 0.5 meters to 1.75 meters in height. The Ministry has urged the public, especially those traveling by land or sea, to remain vigilant against heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds. It also stated that it will continue to monitor weather developments and issue further updates if conditions change.
