Cambodia Forecasts 3 Days of Rain and Thunderstorms Due to Tropical Depression
Cambodia's Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has announced that tropical depressions 'Kujira' and 'Dolphin' over the South China Sea will bring rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds to 70% of the country from August 6-8. Highland areas are expected to be most affected.
The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology announced on the morning of August 6, 2026, that a low-pressure system over the South China Sea has developed into Tropical Depression Kujira (T2614), along with Tropical Depression Dolphin (T2613). These systems are exerting a strong influence on the southwest monsoon winds blowing over the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River Basin, Cambodian Sea, and the Kingdom of Cambodia. However, the Kingdom of Cambodia is not in the direct path of these two storms. The Ministry stated that this weather situation will last for three days, from August 6 to August 8, 2026, affecting several regions within the Kingdom of Cambodia: 1. Lowland Areas: Average minimum temperature of 25°C and average maximum temperature of 35°C. Winds from the southwest and northwest will blow at an average speed of 3 meters per second. Provinces such as Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Takeo, Kandal, and Phnom Penh capital may experience rain mixed with thunderstorms and gusty winds covering 50% of the land area. 2. Highland Areas: Average minimum temperature of 24°C and average maximum temperature of 34°C. Winds from the southwest and west will blow at an average speed of 4 meters per second. Provinces including Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, the Dangrek mountain range, and the Cardamom mountain range may experience rain mixed with thunderstorms and gusty winds covering 70% of the land area. 3. Coastal Areas: Average minimum temperature of 25°C and average maximum temperature of 35°C. Winds from the southwest and southeast will blow at an average speed of 2 meters per second. Provinces such as Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and the Bokor mountain range may experience rain mixed with thunderstorms and gusty winds covering 60% of the land area. Sea waves are expected to have an average minimum height of 0.50 meters and an average maximum height of 1.75 meters.
