Prabowo Urges Vigilance Amid Anak Krakatau Eruption, Advises Evacuation

President Prabowo Subianto on Sunday urged vigilance from residents in Jakarta, Banten, Lampung, and the Sunda Strait area following the eruption activities of Mount Anak Krakatau. He instructed the public to comply with government directives and avoid approaching the danger zone. "Our brothers and sisters in the Jakarta, Banten, Lampung areas, and the Sunda Strait area, to remain calm, increase vigilance, and follow all government directives and field officers," Prabowo was quoted as saying by Antara. The government is continuously monitoring the development of Mount Anak Krakatau's activities and receiving the latest reports from relevant agencies. The President has instructed the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), local governments, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Transportation, and related ministries and agencies to continue monitoring the situation. All government elements are also asked to ensure readiness to run and provide protection and assistance to people in need. For residents affected by volcanic ash, Prabowo asked that health be maintained by wearing masks or respiratory protection. Residents are also asked to reduce outdoor activities if the ash is thick enough and follow the instructions of health officials and local governments. Prabowo emphasized that he would continue to monitor the development of the situation and take the necessary steps to maintain public safety. He also invited the public to pray for residents around Mount Anak Krakatau and the Sunda Strait, as well as people in other areas facing disasters.
