Bavet City Authorities Raid Suspected Online Scam Operations in Rental Units

In Bavet City, southeastern Cambodia, authorities conducted an administrative inspection and raid on August 3rd targeting two rental locations suspected of operating online scams. The operation was led by Bavet City Deputy Governor Ret Raksa, with participation from a joint team of city police, prosecutors, and gendarmerie. The inspection took place at two rental units in Bavet Kandal village, Bavet commune. At the first location, identified as a residential area for "Las Vegas Gas" casino personnel, 20 Cambodian nationals were found, with no foreign residents. The second location, a rental apartment owned by Mr. Sia Thoe, housed a total of 15 foreign nationals, 10 of whom were women. The majority of these foreign residents are believed to be Vietnamese nationals. Specifically, a Vietnamese male residing in room A06 is suspected of involvement in online scam activities. Authorities seized evidence including an "All-in-one" computer, a laptop, and mobile phones from this room. The suspects and the seized evidence have been transferred to the Bavet City Police Inspectorate for further legal proceedings. Room A06 has been temporarily sealed pending the investigation. Bavet City is a significant economic hub due to its casinos and border trade. In recent years, it has faced increasing concerns regarding its use as a base for technologically advanced crimes.
