UN Human Rights Rapporteur Inspects Thai Border Facilities in Banteay Meanchey
UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Cambodia, Thomas Andrews, visited the Boeng Trachoun area in Banteay Meanchey province where Thai military containers and barbed wire have been reportedly deployed. He observed the geography, security, and living conditions of residents along the border.
Thomas Andrews, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Cambodia, conducted an on-site inspection on the afternoon of July 27, 2026, in the Boeng Trachoun area of Thma Koul district, Banteay Meanchey province. This area is where the Thai military has reportedly deployed shipping containers and barbed wire. During the visit, Mr. Andrews and his delegation carefully investigated and observed the geographical situation, security, and living conditions of residents along the border. This visit by the UN Special Rapporteur was facilitated through coordination with H.E. Oum Ratry, Governor of Banteay Meanchey province, and relevant officials.
