Cambodia's CPP Welcomes 3,000 New Members in Phnom Penh

The ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) announced on July 26th the recruitment of 3,000 new members in the Prek Norr district of Phnom Penh. Khuong Sreng, a member of the CPP's central committee and chairman of the Phnom Penh Municipal Party Committee, stated this during a meeting with the new members at the CPP's Prek Norr district headquarters. Mr. Sreng praised the contributions of former Prime Minister Hun Sen, now the party president, and Prime Minister Hun Manet to national development, emphasizing the trust the party has earned from the people. He specifically highlighted Hun Sen's efforts in rebuilding the nation from scratch and achieving development across all sectors, as well as the national vision to become an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050. He also touched upon the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, citing Cambodia's ranking as second globally due to the government's efforts to secure vaccines for its citizens, thereby preventing the spread of the severe disease. He urged the new party members to trust and fully support the actions of Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet, particularly in border disputes with Thailand and the boycott of Thai goods. He called on the members to become voters for the CPP in the upcoming elections in 2027 and 2028 to further develop the nation. Thim Sam-an, a member of the Phnom Penh Municipal Party Committee and chairman of the CPP Prek Norr District Committee, reported that 2,903 new members from the five communes within Prek Norr district would be officially inducted. He pledged to secure victory in the 2027 and 2028 elections. The new members were urged to have confidence in and fully support the party's leadership and its commitment to national territorial integrity. This move to gain new party members is seen as part of the CPP's strategy to further strengthen its support base within the country. The focus is particularly on revitalizing party organizations in rural areas and mobilizing for the upcoming elections. The CPP has been in power for many years, and its political stability is often discussed alongside economic development, though there is also room for discussion regarding the country's political dynamics and opportunities for reflecting diverse public opinions.
