Two confess to killing Russian siblings in Chonburi

SA KAEO — Two suspects have confessed to the murder of two Russian siblings in Chonburi province, Thailand, allegedly in an attempt to steal their motorcycle. Police apprehended Thanana, 43, also known as Pong, and Thongchai, 39, also known as Thong, in Sa Kaeo province on July 31, 2026, as they were reportedly attempting to flee. During questioning, the suspects confessed that their initial intention was to steal the victims' Honda ADV 150 motorcycle. However, they claim the Russian siblings resisted their attempt, leading to the fatal confrontation. The suspects allegedly shot the younger brother dead and punched the older sister, causing her death. Following the alleged murders, the suspects reportedly transported the siblings’ bodies to Khao Chi Chan in Chonburi province and buried them to conceal the crime. They also allegedly dismantled and buried the motorcycle before fleeing the area. Police have taken the suspects to the vicinity of Khao Chi Chan to identify the location where the bodies were allegedly buried, as the investigation into the full circumstances of the case continues. This incident raises renewed concerns about the safety of foreign residents and tourists in Thailand. The escalation of petty crimes like motorcycle theft into violent offenses highlights ongoing societal challenges.
