Thailand Approves Southern Dual-Track Railway Phase 2 Worth 106 Billion Baht to Boost Southern Economy

The Thai cabinet has approved the second phase of the dual-track railway project connecting Chumphon province and Padang Besar, on the Malaysian border. This project is valued at a total of 106 billion baht (approximately 3.2 billion USD) and aims to stimulate the economy of Thailand's southern region and improve the efficiency of logistics and passenger transportation between areas. Dual-tracking is expected not only to increase transportation capacity but also to promote development in areas along the railway, contributing to attracting tourists and fostering industries. Particularly, as the southern part of Thailand is geographically a gateway to Malaysia, this infrastructure development could also enhance its function as a logistics hub within the ASEAN region.
