Vietnam, France Eye Deeper Economic Cooperation Under Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and President To Lam held talks with French President Emmanuel Macron during a welcome ceremony in Paris on September 10 (local time), discussing further strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries. During the meeting, both leaders agreed to effectively implement existing cooperation mechanisms and explore deeper sectoral cooperation to meet Vietnam's development needs in the new international context. Vietnam emphasized its importance in its relations with France, a leading partner in Europe and a significant collaborator on the international stage, expressing its desire to continue close coordination to substantively and effectively deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This summit underscores Vietnam's commitment to enhancing its economic ties with Europe, particularly with France, and deepening bilateral relations. Under its one-party system, Vietnam prioritizes economic growth, and diversifying and strengthening its external economic relations is a crucial pillar of its growth strategy. France, in turn, views Vietnam as a key partner in Southeast Asia, and both nations are exploring possibilities to expand cooperation in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and technology. Vietnam is seeking to broaden its economic and strategic options by strengthening ties with European countries while maintaining a balanced approach in its relations with China. This meeting is seen as part of Vietnam's diplomatic efforts to deepen its engagement with the international community and accelerate economic growth. In particular, strengthening cooperation with France could lead to expanded access to European markets and the introduction of advanced technologies for Vietnam.
