Kampong Thom Province in Cambodia is heightening its vigilance against the spread of dengue fever. On July 10, 2026, Ms. Leng Sokhim, Deputy Director of the Kampong Thom Provincial Red Cross Branch, urged the public to maintain a high level of caution regarding dengue fever. This call came during the launch of a campaign to prevent and control the disease through mosquito spraying and the placement of abate larvicide in water containers, coupled with meetings with residents in Thoma Nat village and Sangkom Thmei village, Tang Krasang commune, Santuk district, Kampong Province. The Kampong Thom Provincial Red Cross Branch, under Ms. Leng Sokhim's leadership, in collaboration with the Santuk District Red Cross Sub-branch and the Tang Krasang Health Center, is educating and appealing to the public to be highly vigilant against dengue fever. The province has already recorded over 70 cases of the disease affecting both the elderly and children. Ms. Sokhim further explained that the current rainy season brings with it accumulated rainwater in areas around homes, such as car tires and coconut shells. She urged citizens to fill in stagnant water pools, clear vegetation around their houses, and place abate larvicide in water containers to effectively prevent and control dengue fever from affecting family members and the community. The Deputy Director also advised health centers to coordinate with local authorities to conduct mosquito spraying in villages and communes, and to widely disseminate information to the public about prevention and control measures. She emphasized that when dengue fever cases occur, all health centers and hospitals must provide timely treatment. Mr. Kim Ny stated that His Excellency the Minister of Health, along with His Excellency Nuon Pharat, Governor of Kampong Thom Province, consistently pay close attention and have reminded health departments and communities to monitor, prevent, control, and respond promptly to the rise in dengue fever cases during the rainy season, working seven days a week. In response to these directives, health officials are collaborating with local authorities and communities to conduct educational activities and awareness campaigns on environmental hygiene, filling stagnant water pools, clearing vegetation around homes, and spraying to kill mosquitoes in villages and communes to prevent dengue fever within communities. Mr. Kim Ny, Deputy Head of the Tang Krasang Health Center, appealed to the public, especially parents with young children who show suspected dengue fever symptoms such as high fever, headache, or rash, to rush them to the health center or provincial referral hospital for prompt examination and treatment. He warned that delaying treatment could be life-threatening.
