13 Villages in Oriental Mindoro Submerged by Monsoon Rains

Thirteen villages across five municipalities in Oriental Mindoro were reported flooded on Saturday afternoon due to persistent rains from the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat.” The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) provided an update on the flooding situation as of 4 p.m. on Saturday. Floodwaters in some affected areas were reported to have reached knee-deep. The PDRRMO identified the flooded villages in various municipalities, including Calapan City, barangays in San Teodoro, Lian, and Pilar. No reports of forced evacuation of residents were immediately available. Flooding incidents are common in the Philippines during the rainy season, often exacerbated by the southwest monsoon, leading to disruptions in daily life, particularly in low-lying areas and near riverbanks. The country's geography and infrastructure are often challenged by such weather events.
