Cambodia and FBI Pledge to Strengthen Security Cooperation

On the morning of July 22, 2026, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, received a courtesy call and held discussions with Mr. Kash Patel, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States of America, at the Peace Palace. During the meeting, Mr. Kash Patel expressed his gratitude to the Cambodian government for its close cooperation and partnership with the FBI. He also praised Cambodia's efforts and operations in combating cyber fraud crimes. Mr. Patel emphasized that cyber fraud is not an isolated issue for any single country, and that regional and global commitment and cooperation are key to collectively fighting this crime, rather than burdening each other. Furthermore, he affirmed the United States' strong commitment to continuing its cooperation and partnership with Cambodia's law enforcement agencies, expressing optimism that the US-Cambodia relationship will continue to grow even stronger. In response, Samdech Thipadei highly valued the positive progress in Cambodia-US relations across various sectors, including economy, trade, investment, national defense, and security. The Prime Minister confirmed the excellent cooperation between the two countries in the security sector and reiterated Cambodia's commitment to continuing close cooperation with the United States to combat transnational crime, drug trafficking, and cyber fraud. He further informed that Cambodia will host an International Conference on Combating Cyber Fraud in September 2026, contributing to the strengthening of international cooperation in addressing this regional and global challenge. Concurrently, he expressed thanks to the United States for its cooperation in information exchange and capacity building for Cambodian law enforcement officials in the past. Before concluding, the Prime Minister and the FBI Director exchanged views on the future direction of security cooperation between Cambodia and the United States to combat transnational crime, drug trafficking, and cyber fraud crimes, highlighting the importance of continued information exchange and capacity building for law enforcement officials.
