Cambodia and FBI Pledge to Enhance Security Cooperation

Cambodia and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States have pledged to further strengthen their security cooperation. This commitment was made during a working meeting on the morning of July 22, held at the Peace Palace, between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and FBI Deputy Director Kash Patel. Deputy Director Patel expressed gratitude to the Cambodian government for its close cooperation and partnership with the FBI, and praised Cambodia's efforts and operations in cracking down on technological fraud crimes. He emphasized that technological fraud is not an isolated problem for any single country, and that regional and global commitment and cooperation are key to jointly combating this crime, rather than shifting blame to each other. He affirmed the United States' firm commitment to continue cooperating with and supporting Cambodian law enforcement institutions, expressing optimism that US-Cambodia relations will continue to grow even stronger. Prime Minister Hun Manet highly valued the positive progress in Cambodia-US relations across many sectors, including economy, trade, investment, national defense, and security. The Prime Minister reaffirmed that the two countries have excellent cooperation in the security sector and reiterated Cambodia's commitment to continue close cooperation with the United States to combat cross-border crimes, drug trafficking, and technological fraud. Furthermore, the Prime Minister announced that Cambodia will host an international conference on combating technological fraud in September 2026, contributing to the strengthening of international cooperation in addressing this regional and global challenge. In addition, the Prime Minister thanked the United States for its cooperation in information exchange and capacity building for Cambodian law enforcement officials in the past. The Prime Minister and the FBI Deputy Director also exchanged views on the future direction of security cooperation between Cambodia and the United States, aimed at combating cross-border crimes, drug trafficking, and technological fraud, emphasizing the importance of continued information exchange and capacity building for law enforcement officials.
