The Myanmar junta has raided a suspected online scam hub near Taunggyi in southern Shan State, arresting 49 people, including 38 Chinese nationals. According to junta-controlled media, the raid took place at a location about 16 kilometers from Taunggyi, and computers, mobile phones, and SIM cards used by the scam group were seized. Of the 49 arrested, 38 were Chinese nationals and the remaining 11 were Myanmar nationals. The junta announced that the raid was a "significant step in thwarting the activities of criminal organizations." Despite the raids, residents say the cyberscam networks remain resilient, relocating to militia-controlled areas in Shan and Karen states to evade crackdowns.
