Battambang City Prepares for 21-Road Construction Project, 15 International Firms Inspect Sites
Fifteen international companies have inspected sites for a 21-road construction project in Battambang City, Cambodia. Bidding is scheduled for August 28, with construction expected to commence in September. The project aims to enhance the city's tourism appeal and improve residents' daily lives.
In Battambang City, the capital of Battambang Province in western Cambodia, site inspections were conducted in July for a road construction project covering 21 routes. Governor of Battambang Province, Sok Lu, and Undersecretary of State and Project Director of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Vong Piseth, led the inspection along with representatives from 15 international companies. The tender document opening is scheduled for August 28, and construction is expected to commence around September 2026 after the completion of procedures. Upon completion, combined with other already constructed roads, the city's landscape is anticipated to further improve, attracting both domestic and international tourists. It is also expected to significantly contribute to enhancing the convenience of residents' lives and travel. Battambang City is currently undertaking three major projects financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), all implemented by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. Firstly, a standard solid waste landfill in Ta Khream village, Banan district, is operational and is one of the largest in Cambodia. Secondly, the wastewater treatment system project on the east bank of the Sangkae River aims to collect rainwater and wastewater, treat it at a 10-hectare facility in Sangkae district before discharging it into natural water sources available for public use and agricultural irrigation. Thirdly, a similar wastewater treatment system project is underway on the west bank of the Sangkae River, treating wastewater from households at a facility on an 8.9-hectare site in Thma Koul district. These three projects have brought significant benefits to the residents of Battambang City. Although some difficulties were encountered during the project implementation, such as road damage, it is believed that upon the full completion of these projects, residents' lives will become more comfortable, water and environmental pollution issues will be resolved, and a better sanitary environment will be achieved compared to the past.
