Cambodia Holds Progress Meeting for Integrated Water Resource Management Project in Poipet Province

On the morning of Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Poipet Provincial Hall, H.E. Van Chan Thoo, Undersecretary of State and Director of the Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) Project of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, led a discussion and progress update meeting on the implementation of the IWRM project with the provincial administration, local authorities, and relevant institutions. This meeting was organized to update on the implementation of the IWRM project in Poipet Province, including: the construction of the Huahong weir, the design and modernization of Main Canal-1 (MC-1) and Main Canal-2 (MC-2), the improvement of the hydrological-meteorological network, the development of an automated flood and drought forecasting system and early warning system, as well as the establishment and strengthening of farmer communities' capacity for sustainable water use. H.E. the Undersecretary of State stated that the IWRM project has a comprehensive scope, not only focusing on the construction of water infrastructure but also integrating river basin management, data systems, forecasting, flood and drought protection, promoting farmer participation, and efficient water use. The success of this project also depends on the close cooperation between the project implementation unit, the provincial administration, authorities at all levels, relevant ministries and agencies, and the local people.
