Cambodia Signs $1 Billion Loan Agreement for Funan Techo Water Resource Project with China Exim Bank

The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) announced on September 11, 2026, that a loan agreement for the 'Funan Techo Water Resource Project' was signed between Funan Techo Coastal-Inland Waterways Company and the Export-Import Bank of China (China Exim Bank). The agreement is valued at approximately $1 billion USD. The project, implemented under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, is a private investment initiative designed to connect the inland waterway network to the sea, thereby reducing transportation costs and enhancing competitiveness in the logistics sector. Furthermore, the project is expected to create a 'new economic corridor,' transforming Cambodia's landscape and serving as a vibrant economic artery. Through this project, industrial zones, logistics hubs, agricultural processing, satellite city development, and tourism are anticipated to experience significant growth along this waterway in the coming decade. The signing ceremony took place during the 'Global Wisdom, Mutual Empowerment: International Investment & Cooperation Exchange' forum held in Fujian Province, People's Republic of China, with the witness of H.E.
