Langkat Regent Syah Afandin has been brought to Jakarta for in-depth investigation after being apprehended in a sting operation by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that Syah Afandin was secured by the KPK at his private residence in Medan on Thursday (2/7/2026). "What is certain is that the Regent was apprehended at his private residence located in the Medan area," said Budi at the KPK's Merah Putih Building on Friday (3/7/2026). Ondim, as the Langkat Regent is affectionately known, is not the only one arrested by the KPK. A total of seven individuals were apprehended in three different areas in North Sumatra, namely Langkat, Binjai, and Medan. Budi added that the parties apprehended in these three locations are undergoing initial examination at the Medan City Police. "And this afternoon, one of them, the Langkat Regent, has been brought to Jakarta for further examination. The Regent is scheduled to arrive at Merah Putih this afternoon," Budi continued. On this occasion, Budi also explained the alleged case ensnaring the Langkat Regent and six others. It is suspected to be related to bribery for projects in the Education Office and the Housing and Settlement Area Office (Perkim). Budi added that the KPK investigation team will continue to probe the case involving Syah Afadin, including the potential for gratifications in Langkat. "Of course, it will also be investigated and traced whether there have been other receipts or gratifications made by the Regent or state officials in the Langkat region," explained Budi. It is known that those apprehended in the KPK sting operation are currently still in the status of being examined. The anti-graft agency has 1x24 hours to determine the status of those apprehended.
