Cambodia and Danish Firm Partner to Enhance TVET Skills to International Standards

Cambodia's Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Denmark's SCAN Industrial Services (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. (SIS) to enhance cooperation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and workforce development. This partnership aims to align Cambodia's workforce with international standards. The signing ceremony, held on August 8th, was attended by Secretary of State Chea Kosal, representing Minister Heng Sour, who met with Tommy Christensen, Chairman and CEO of SIS. During the meeting, plans and next steps for the implementation of the MoA were discussed and agreed upon, focusing on strengthening cooperation in TVET, skills development, and workforce development. Secretary of State Chea Kosal highly valued the MoA signing as a significant step in strengthening international cooperation in TVET, skills development, and preparing Cambodia's workforce to international standards. He emphasized that TVET institutions are strategic bases for labor force transformation, equipping youth with appropriate skills for industry needs through reskilling and upskilling, thereby enhancing professional standards and developing a modern workforce. He also expressed confidence that this project will contribute to elevating the quality of the Ministry's Industrial Technical Institute (ITI) to a new level. This achievement is something the Minister and the Ministry's leadership have long desired. Representing Minister Heng Sour, Secretary of State Chea Kosal expressed his full support for the project and expressed strong confidence in its successful implementation, which will not only contribute to developing a high-quality human resource but also enhance the prestige of the TVET sector as a whole, in accordance with the spirit and implementation plan of this MoA, for the benefit of the nation and Cambodian youth. In response, Tommy Christensen expressed his deep gratitude and great pleasure at the signing, stating that it will serve as a framework and platform for cooperation between both parties. He firmly believes that through this collaboration, both parties will achieve concrete and successful results in meeting their planned objectives, contributing to the development of the TVET sector in Cambodia. The MoA aims to establish a legal framework for enhancing TVET programs and workforce development in Cambodia. Specifically, it will leverage the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training's expertise in the iron and machinery sectors to upgrade the Metal Engineering and Sheet Metal Department of ITI to international standards, in line with the Cambodian government's "Pentagonal Strategy" and the "Cambodia Skills Development Roadmap 2023-2035," as well as the TVET policy of the Cambodian government.
