It is reported that the ceremony to commence the operation of the No. 83 up train with modern DEMU train sets, in order to facilitate more convenient and smooth travel for the public on the Yangon - Mawlamyine railway section, was held on the morning of July 1st at Platform No. 1 of Yangon Central Railway Station. It is reported that the ceremony was attended by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Soe, Union Minister for Transport Deputy Minister U Aung Myo, Yangon Region Chief Justice Daw Sandar Thwe, Yangon Region Security and Border Affairs Minister Colonel Win Tint, Minister for Planning, Finance and Industry Dr. Myo Thant, Minister for Social Affairs U Bo Thet, Minister for Information, Relief and Resettlement U Ne Lin Htun, Minister for Electricity, Energy, Industry and Transport Dr. Myo Thaw, Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Htoo Maung, Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Soe Oo, Minister for Municipal Affairs U Myo Myint Aung, Minister for Rakhine Ethnic Affairs U Ne Min Htun, Advocate General Daw Phyu Mar Wai, and Secretary U Ne Win Aung, along with heads of departments, officials from Myanma Railways, and invited guests. Union Minister for Transport Deputy Minister U Aung Myo presented in detail the arrangements made to commence service on the Yangon - Mawlamyine railway section using modern DEMU train sets. It is reported that one set of the modern DEMU train, which includes air-conditioned carriages, for the No. 83 up / No. 84 down service, consists of two upper class carriages and four first class carriages, with a total seating capacity of 312 passengers, comprising 72 in upper class and 240 in first class. It is reported that the ticket prices are K22,000 for upper class and K16,000 for first class for the entire journey. It is reported that the train will stop at Toe Chaung Gyi, Bago, Theinzayut, Kyaikto, Thaton, and Paung stations along the Yangon-Mawlamyine-Yangon route, and the entire journey will take only 6 hours, making same-day round trips possible. Similarly, it is reported that tickets for the No. 81 up / No. 82 down express trains currently running on the Yangon-Mawlamyine railway section, and the No. 83 up / No. 84 down modern DEMU express trains that will now commence service, can be purchased through the Online Railways Ticketing and Payment System (ORTP), with advance purchases available seven days prior for the entire journey and five days prior for intermediate stations.
