Prabowo and Modi Inaugurate Prambanan Temple Conservation Project

Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, alongside Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, jointly inaugurated the conservation and restoration project for the UNESCO World Heritage site of Prambanan Temple, located near Yogyakarta, on the morning of the 7th local time. This initiative symbolizes bilateral cooperation in cultural heritage preservation between the two nations. Prambanan Temple complex, renowned for its magnificent Hindu temple architecture, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. However, its preservation has become an urgent issue due to years of weathering, natural disasters such as earthquakes, and wear and tear from increasing tourist numbers. This joint inauguration is seen as an effort to share India's long-cultivated expertise in cultural heritage preservation with Indonesia, aiming for the long-term maintenance of the Prambanan Temple complex. Minister Prabowo emphasized the importance of protecting Indonesia's rich cultural heritage and passing it on to future generations. Prime Minister Modi stated that cultural heritage is at the core of national identity and highlighted the significance of safeguarding its value through international cooperation. The presence of both leaders at the inauguration ceremony marks a significant step in deepening cultural exchange within the diplomatic relations between Indonesia and India. The conservation project plans to comprehensively address structural reinforcement of the temples, restoration of deteriorated sections, and整備 of the surrounding environment.
