Vietnamese Leader Holds Talks with French President, Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President To Lam paid an official visit to France from September 10-11, 2026, to attend the Space Summit. On the afternoon of September 10 (local time), following a solemn welcoming ceremony at the Elysée Palace, General Secretary and President To Lam held talks with President Emmanuel Macron. During the talks, the two leaders exchanged views on the traditional friendly relations and the progress of the strategic partnership between Vietnam and France. They agreed to further strengthen cooperation in various fields, particularly in politics and diplomacy, economy and trade, culture and tourism, science and technology, education, and climate change response. Vietnam expressed its expectations for France's contributions to strengthening relations with the European Union (EU), given France's important role within the bloc. General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that France is a crucial economic partner for Vietnam, with significant potential for cooperation in areas such as investment, infrastructure development, and renewable energy. They shared the view that technology transfer and investment from France are indispensable for promoting Vietnam's economic growth and international integration. President Macron highly appreciated Vietnam's recent economic development and its expanding role in the international community, expressing his intention to support further expansion of trade and investment relations between the two countries. He specifically expressed readiness to support Vietnam's digital transformation (DX) and its transition to a green economy. The two leaders also discussed regional and international issues, agreeing to continue cooperation to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development. This meeting is expected to elevate the strategic partnership between Vietnam and France to a new level.
