MANILA, Philippines — Agricultural losses topped P3 billion as of Wednesday due to the enhanced southwest monsoon and Tropical Cyclones Luis, Maymay, and Neneng, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said. In its bulletin on Wednesday, the DA said the country’s farm sector sustained P3.39 billion in losses due to weather disturbances. Typhoons ravaged 82,631 metric tons of agricultural produce covering 72,766 hectares of land. READ: A week of storms: Monsoon, Luis, Maymay leave trail of destruction About 80,500 farmers and fisherfolk in the Cordillera, Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, and Western Visayas have suffered due to the situation. “Affected commodities include rice, corn, cassava, high-value crops, fisheries, livestock and poultry, and agri-fisheries infrastructure, machinery, and equipment,” the agency said.
