Pattaya Hit by Heavy Overnight Storms, Widespread Flooding and Traffic Chaos Ensue

Pattaya, Chonburi – Continuous heavy rain lashed Pattaya for more than an hour on Thursday night into Friday morning, causing widespread flooding and significant traffic delays after the city’s drainage system failed to cope with the downpour. The rain began falling steadily and intensified across the city, with water pooling on streets and causing disruptions in many areas. Several low-lying roads, including parts of Soi Buakhao and Soi Kasem Phrim, as well as numerous smaller sois, were reported to be inundated. The Pattaya City Municipality stated that the volume of rainfall exceeded the capacity of the existing drainage infrastructure. Drainage operations and road recovery efforts are currently underway, though some areas remain difficult to navigate. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges with infrastructure resilience in Pattaya, a rapidly developing tourist hub.
