PATTAYA, Thailand – Heavy overnight rain caused widespread flooding across roads and homes in parts of Pattaya late on September 10, leaving motorists struggling through water. The downpour disrupted traffic, with some vehicles reportedly breaking down and traffic chaos ensuing at several locations. Flooding was reported at approximately 11 p.m. on Sukhumvit Road in front of Lotus South Pattaya on the Sattahip-bound side, the Moom Aroi intersection on Third Road, the railway road behind Wat Tham, and the Nong Yai Soi 2 intersection. Deep water made driving difficult in affected areas, with stalled and disabled vehicles exacerbating traffic problems. Slippery and flooded roads created hazardous conditions for motorists and pedestrians alike, while water entered some homes and low-lying properties. Officials were deployed at the affected locations to manage traffic and assist motorists. Water levels later began falling steadily, but the incident once again highlighted how quickly heavy rain can overwhelm drainage in Pattaya, turning normally busy roads into flood zones. The flooding also serves as a stark warning for residents in low-lying areas.
