Cambodia and China Sign Agreement to Export Fresh Jackfruit to China
Cambodia and China have signed a protocol on phytosanitary requirements, paving the way for the export of fresh jackfruit to the Chinese market. This agreement is expected to boost Cambodian agricultural exports and enhance the credibility of Khmer agricultural products internationally.
Cambodia and China have officially signed two key documents in Beijing on the afternoon of July 15, 2026, aimed at promoting agricultural cooperation and trade between the two nations. The signing ceremony was attended by H.E. Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia, and H.E. Sun Meijun, Administrator of the General Administration of Customs of China. The cooperation agreements include: 1. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in plant and animal quarantine, and safe import and export of food products. 2. A Protocol on phytosanitary requirements for the export of fresh jackfruit from Cambodia to China. This phytosanitary protocol clearly defines the technical conditions from cultivation, harvesting, cleaning, processing, packaging, to transportation. The primary goal is to ensure that all exported agricultural products are free from viruses, chemical substances, pests, or infectious diseases that could pose risks to human health, animals, and crops. This achievement is another new milestone, reflecting the active efforts of the Cambodian government in negotiating the opening of international markets and building confidence in the quality of Khmer agricultural products. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries calls upon all producers and exporters to pay close attention to organizing their production chains properly and to strictly adhere to sanitary standards and the phytosanitary requirements of China to ensure successful exports and maintain the reputation of Cambodian agricultural products.
