China Coast Guard fires water cannons at Philippine vessels near Scarborough Shoal

The Philippine Coast Guard reported that Chinese Coast Guard vessels used water cannons and dangerous maneuvers against Philippine Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) ships near Scarborough Shoal (Bajo de Masinloc). This incident further escalates tensions in the South China Sea. According to the Coast Guard, the Chinese vessels intentionally blocked the path of the BFAR ships and deployed powerful water cannons while the BFAR vessels were conducting normal operations. The Philippine government has condemned the action as a violation of international law and intends to lodge a diplomatic protest. The South China Sea, particularly around Scarborough Shoal, is an area where China claims de facto control, while the Philippines also asserts its sovereignty.
