Lower Rice, Corn Harvests Expected in Q3

Production of palay (unmilled rice) and corn in the Philippines is expected to see double-digit declines in the third quarter of this year, according to the latest estimates from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). The projections, based on standing crops as of August 1, indicate that a reduction in harvest areas will significantly impact overall output. The PSA estimates palay production for the July-to-September period to reach 3.19 million metric tons. This figure represents a projected decrease of 10.2% compared to the same period last year. Similarly, corn production is forecast at 1.87 million metric tons, marking an anticipated decline of 14.6% year-on-year.
