Phu Quoc Accelerates Multimodal Infrastructure for APEC 2027

Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam's popular southern resort destination, is rapidly advancing its infrastructure development in preparation for hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in 2027. A key focus is the accelerated expansion and upgrade of DT975, the main arterial road connecting Phu Quoc International Airport with the APEC Convention Centre. DT975 is designed with a 62-meter width, featuring 10 motor vehicle lanes and an integrated light rail transit (LRT) system, positioning it as a cornerstone of the island's future multimodal transportation network. This infrastructure investment aims to enhance Phu Quoc's international profile and stimulate tourism and economic development, especially in anticipation of the APEC event. The Vietnamese government, under its one-party system, prioritizes economic growth, and investments in Phu Quoc, which aims to become a leading tourist destination, are part of this strategy. While Vietnam has strong economic ties with China, it has been pursuing a diversified foreign policy, balancing geopolitical relationships and attracting international events like this summit.
