Dong Thap Province Inspects Freshwater Supply Project to Go Cong Area

Dong Thap Province in Vietnam's southern Mekong Delta has reviewed the progress of a crucial project aimed at supplying freshwater to the salinized area of Go Cong. On September 22, provincial leaders and representatives from specialized agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development inspected key construction sections and planned facility sites for the project, which will transfer freshwater via the Cho Gao Canal. This initiative is vital for addressing the severe salinity intrusion issue plaguing the Mekong Delta, particularly by ensuring a stable supply of agricultural water in the Go Cong region. In recent years, climate change and upstream dam construction have led to reduced water flow in the Mekong River and increased saltwater intrusion, significantly impacting agricultural production. Dong Thap Province aims to strengthen freshwater supply to vulnerable areas through this project, thereby stabilizing the regional economy. Dong Thap Province has also been focusing on developing industrial parks to create jobs and accelerate the disbursement of public investment capital. Furthermore, the province has formulated plans to respond to potential early droughts and salinity crises, undertaking multifaceted efforts to enhance the sustainability of the local community.
