Cambodia Cracks Down on Cyber Scams in Svay Rieng Casinos

Svay Rieng province in southeastern Cambodia officially launched its casino quality assessment and monitoring campaign on July 27, 2026, aimed at combating cyber scams. Deputy Governor Men Eng led the initiative, accompanied by Deputy Secretary-General of the Gambling Management Committee (GDC), General Sen Sopheap, during an inspection of The New Venetian Casino and Hotel in Bavet city. The event saw participation from the Deputy Prosecutor of the Svay Rieng Provincial Court, the Deputy Provincial Police Commissioner, the Mayor of Bavet city, and representatives from various inter-ministerial working groups and technical teams. The primary objective of this inspection mission is to ensure that all casinos holding a legal license from the GDC are not covertly operating as hubs for cyber scams or other illegal activities, as stipulated in Government Order No. 01 BB dated July 14, 2025, concerning the campaign to eradicate cyber fraud. Furthermore, the inspection aims to collect and update information on casinos nationwide, thereby strengthening management efficiency and serving as an official basis for reviewing the validity of casino business licenses for 2026. It also seeks to assess the current state of Cambodia's casino sector, providing crucial input for the development of the vision and strategy for the commercial gambling sector up to 2030. Concurrently, it will facilitate the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for managing the casino sector with greater transparency and effectiveness. This casino quality assessment and monitoring activity will be progressively implemented across all casino locations within Svay Rieng province, commencing from July 22 and concluding on August 9, 2026.
