Cambodia's Hapkido Athletes Aim for Medals at Asian Championship in China

The Cambodian Hapkido national team is determined to win medals at the 3rd Asian Championship, scheduled to take place in Hong Kong, China, from August 13-17. In an interview following a press conference and motivational gathering on the evening of August 6, Mr. Kong Chanthena, coach and Secretary-General of the Cambodian Hapkido Federation, praised the diligent training and strong commitment of the 10 participating athletes. He expressed optimism that they could bring home some medals for the nation. Mr. Chanthena stated that the team would adhere to international technical principles for each discipline, acknowledging that some obstacles would inevitably arise. As a coach, he conveyed his gratitude to all Hapkido athletes preparing for the competition for their intense dedication towards winning medals for their homeland. Mr. Kong Chanthena emphasized that the Cambodian Hapkido Federation has placed its hopes on the Asian Championship in Hong Kong for securing some medals. He noted that the continental championship gathers top athletes from numerous countries, and Cambodian competitors might face challenges in certain events, such as high jump and long jump, potentially due to differences in athletes' physiques or heights, even if they are of the same age. Despite these potential hurdles, the Cambodian Hapkido coach remains optimistic that the athletes will strive to their fullest potential to achieve positive results for the country. He also extended his thanks to the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport for their continuous attention, support, and permission for the Cambodian Hapkido delegation to participate in international competitions. Additionally, he thanked the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia for their consistent support, including providing uniforms and shoes, and assisting with legal documentation for visa applications for this Asian Championship mission in China. The Cambodian Hapkido delegation comprises a total of 14 members, including officials, coaches, sports administrators, and 10 athletes (4 of whom are female). The delegation is scheduled to depart from Cambodia at 7:00 AM on August 13.
