Cambodia Issues Ethical Guidance to Content Creators Amidst Misinformation Concerns

The Ministry of Information in Cambodia has issued guidance to the influencer 'Kru Tuer' and their content production team regarding the improper use of the Red Cross symbol and the creation of content that could impact social ethics and the dignity of Cambodian women. This directive comes amidst concerns over content that may undermine societal values and the honor of Cambodian women. Phos Sovann, Director-General of the General Department of Information and Audiovisual Media of the Ministry of Information, met with 'Kru Tuer' and their team on Monday, August 3, 2026. The meeting focused on providing education, guidance, and corrective measures. As a result of the meeting, the page administrator and the production team agreed to acknowledge their mistakes and comply with the recommended measures. The key measures include: 1. Deletion of Incorrect Content: The administrator of the page 'Ly Huak Koun Khmer' has agreed to completely remove all content that incorrectly used the Red Cross symbol. 2. Correction of Content: The administrator of the page 'Ly Huak Koun Khmer' must correct all content that has improperly used the Red Cross symbol. 3. Audit of Old Content (10 days): All previously published content that has affected social ethics and the dignity of Cambodian women must be reviewed and corrected within 10 days, with a report to be submitted to the Ministry. 4. Information Provision and Cessation of Harmful Activities: The 'Kru Tuer' production team will provide information and a list of pages they have collaborated with or published through to the General Department of Information and Audiovisual Media for further guidance. Simultaneously, they have pledged to immediately cease the production of any content that negatively affects national culture, traditions, customs, honor, and the values of Cambodian women. 5. Prior Approval Request: Any content production and dissemination related to ministries or state institutions must be consulted and approved by the relevant ministry or institution beforehand. 6. Participation in Disseminating Educational Messages: Content creators and performing groups have been urged to shift their focus towards disseminating educational messages on social issues such as drug abuse, traffic accidents, and the promotion of social ethics. During the occasion, Phos Sovann reiterated his appeal to all content creators to uphold responsibility, respect laws, culture, and the values of Cambodian women in their creative endeavors for society.
