Cambodia and Vietnam Discuss Highway Connection to Boost Economic Ties

A consultative meeting was held in Hanoi, Vietnam, on September 4, 2026, to discuss the connection points for the expressways linking Bavet in Cambodia and Moc Bai in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Peng Pouza, Governor of Svay Rieng Province, attended the meeting on behalf of Cambodia. This discussion aims to strengthen infrastructure connectivity and promote economic exchange between Cambodia and Vietnam. The meeting took place under the auspices of Governor Peng Pouza of Cambodia and Minister Peng Ponna of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Vietnam. It is understood that officials from both countries exchanged views on selecting specific connection points and related infrastructure development plans. Cambodia is currently accelerating its infrastructure development, largely driven by investments from China. The development of its expressway network is a crucial factor in reducing logistics costs and revitalizing the regional economy. The discussions regarding the expressway connection with Vietnam are expected to be a significant step toward deepening economic integration within the ASEAN region.
