Prabowo to Launch National Electric Motorcycle in Weeks, Aiming for Farmer Adoption
President Prabowo announced plans to launch a domestically produced electric motorcycle within weeks, expressing hope for increased farmer incomes to enable purchases. He also reiterated aspirations for domestic car production, referencing the past adoption of the Indonesian-made "Maung" jeep.
President Prabowo Subianto has announced plans to launch a domestically produced electric motorcycle within the next few weeks. Speaking at a simultaneous harvest event with the TNI in Malang, East Java, Prabowo expressed his hope that these locally manufactured vehicles would be widely adopted by farmers across the country. Details regarding the motorcycle's name, manufacturer, price, specifications, and the exact launch date have not yet been disclosed. However, the President conveyed his aspiration for increased farmer incomes to enable them to purchase such vehicles. "I hope that our farmers will at least ride motorbikes, electric motorbikes. Who knows if everyone uses cars," Prabowo stated. The President also alluded to domestically produced vehicles already in use by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). He cited the "Maung" jeep as an example, noting that it was chosen despite initially being more expensive than foreign alternatives. Prabowo recounted his decision as Defense Minister to prioritize the Indonesian-made vehicle. "Yes, I chose a somewhat expensive but Indonesian-made one, namely Maung," he said, adding that the TNI and some village development cadres (Babinsa) have already begun receiving electric motorcycles. Prabowo emphasized the future goal of Indonesia being able to produce its own cars. "We will have a motorcycle made by Indonesian children. We will have a car made by Indonesian children," he declared. It remains unclear whether the upcoming national electric motorcycle will be a new product or a development of vehicles already utilized by the TNI. Information Source: VOI English
