Laos and Vietnam Deepen Prosecutor Cooperation, Strengthening Regional Stability
Laos and Vietnam's Supreme People's Procuracies have strengthened their cooperation through high-level visits. Both nations aim to contribute to regional stability and development by deepening collaboration in judicial assistance, crime prevention, and capacity building.
Laos and Vietnam have agreed to further strengthen cooperation between their Supreme People's Procuracies, following an official visit to Laos by a high-level delegation from Vietnam. The visit was made at the invitation of Livong Laoly, Member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and Prosecutor General of the Lao PDR, and was led by Nguyen Huy Tien, Member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and Prosecutor General of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. During bilateral talks on July 15, both sides reviewed their countries' socio-economic development and assessed the implementation of the 2022 cooperation agreement between the two prosecutorial institutions. It was noted that regular exchanges of high-level and technical delegations at both central and local levels have strengthened mutual trust and enhanced practical cooperation. Consultations on the sidelines of regional and international meetings have also further deepened bilateral ties. Cooperation in the legal field has expanded, encompassing judicial assistance, extradition, and the exchange of professional experience. Vietnam has continued to support the training and capacity building of Lao prosecutors, contributing to the strengthening of professional expertise and institutional capacity. Both sides also emphasized the importance of cooperation between procuracy offices in border provinces. These offices maintain close coordination through information sharing and joint efforts to address cross-border legal issues, which has improved the handling of transnational criminal cases, enhanced judicial cooperation, and strengthened efforts to combat cross-border crime. Laos has called for stronger international cooperation and increased support for vulnerable developing countries to accelerate progress toward the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. Separately, President Thongloun Sisoulith urged Lao media to strengthen professionalism, credibility, and innovation, and to counter misinformation.
