PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. on Wednesday reaffirmed the government’s goal of raising renewable energy’s share in the country’s power generation mix to 50% by 2040. Speaking at the inauguration of the Energy Museum at the Department of Energy, Mr. Marcos said renewable energy accounts for about 25% of electricity generation, with the government targeting 35% by 2030. “It is only fair that Filipino families pay for what electricity they use — not for inefficiencies that are beyond their control,” he said. The President reiterated the administration’s commitment to expanding renewable energy while pursuing reforms to reduce electricity costs. — Erika Mae P. Sinaking
