Phnom Penh Governor Shares Experience at International Forum on NCD Prevention

Phnom Penh Governor Khuang Sreng was invited to be a speaker alongside the Mayor of Donggu City, Republic of Korea, and the Mayor of Penang, Malaysia, to share experiences on the importance of joint cooperation in preventing non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Phnom Penh City had previously received the World Health Organization's (WHO) annual award for 2026 in NCD prevention. From Sydney, Ms. Dou Sampoth, Deputy Director of Administration and Spokesperson for the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration, stated that during the discussion, the Governor had the opportunity to share several experiences as a local leader and a member of the Partnership for Urban Well-being Network. These included promoting cooperation with all relevant parties to ensure the well-being of citizens. Phnom Penh City focuses on several core sectors while also enhancing the health sector. Key areas include education, land use planning, urbanization, environmental protection, sanitation, physical infrastructure development, and strengthening mechanisms to monitor citizens' livelihoods from the district and commune levels down to the village level, ensuring timely provision of needs for citizens facing difficulties. In addition, the Governor highlighted the importance of being a member of the Partnership for Urban Well-being Network, which has significantly contributed to Phnom Penh City's development into a resilient, healthy, and harmonious city. This is achieved by learning from advanced cities and adopting various methods to address past challenges, particularly mechanisms to enhance the well-being of citizens within the community, thereby contributing to the implementation and improvement of actual living standards. Furthermore, the spokesperson added that through network membership, the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration has gained sufficient capacity to identify challenges, find solutions, and implement measures to respond to these issues. As the first Cambodian member of the Alliance for Healthy Cities (AFHC) and the Partnership for Urban Well-being (PHC), Governor Khuang Sreng emphasized that the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration has always adhered to the spirit of sharing experiences and work results at public forums. This includes national meetings of governors and provincial leaders, as well as experience-sharing meetings on management and addressing challenges at the local level. These efforts are aimed at jointly promoting and enhancing the health and well-being of citizens in their respective localities, in line with the vision of the Royal Government under the high leadership of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and with the constant guidance of H.E.
