Phnom Penh Governor Shares Health Cooperation Experience After Receiving WHO Award

Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng shared his experience on the importance of public health cooperation in preventing non-communicable diseases, following his receipt of the 2026 World Health Organization award. His Excellency spoke as a panelist alongside the Mayor of Donggu City, Republic of Korea, and the Mayor of Penang, Malaysia, on the morning of September 2, 2026, in Sydney, Australia. The discussion focused on initiating from local activities to the synergistic impact of networks. Ms. Dou Samphos, Deputy Director-General of Administration and Spokesperson for the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration, stated that His Excellency the Governor was given the opportunity to share several experiences as a local leader and a member of the Partnership for Healthy Cities (PHC) network. These include promoting cooperation with all relevant parties to ensure the welfare of citizens, with the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration focusing on several core areas. In addition to promoting the health sector, this includes education, urban planning, environmental sanitation, physical infrastructure development, and strengthening mechanisms for monitoring citizens' livelihoods from the commune, district, to village levels to ensure timely provision of needs to citizens facing difficulties. Concurrently, His Excellency the Governor also highlighted the importance of being a member of the Partnership for Healthy Cities network, which has significantly contributed to the resilient, healthy, and harmonious development of Phnom Penh. This is achieved by learning from advanced cities and various methods to address past challenges, especially mechanisms for promoting citizen welfare in communities to become inputs for implementing and enhancing actual living quality. Furthermore, through network membership, the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration has gained sufficient capacity to identify challenges, find solutions, and implement measures to respond to those issues. Ms. Dou continued that as the first Cambodian member of the Alliance for Healthy Cities (AFHC) and the Partnership for Healthy Cities (PHC) network, His Excellency Khuong Sreng also emphasized that the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration has always adhered to the spirit of sharing experiences and work results implemented in the past at public forums. This includes national meetings at the governor/provincial governor level and experience exchange meetings on management and problem-solving at the local level for various provincial leaders, to jointly promote and enhance the health and welfare of citizens in their respective localities, in line with the vision of the Royal Government under the high leadership of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and with the constant guidance of His Excellency Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
