MariBank Philippines Becomes Country's Seventh Licensed Digital Bank
MariBank Philippines Inc. (formerly a rural bank) has been approved by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to convert into a digital bank, marking the country's seventh licensed digital bank and signaling further expansion of financial inclusion.
The Monetary Board of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has approved the conversion of MariBank Philippines Inc. (formerly a rural bank) into a digital bank, making it the country's seventh licensed digital bank. According to the BSP, MariBank officially began operating as a digital bank under the corporate name MariBank Philippines Inc. on July 18, 2026, after receiving its certificate of authority from the central bank on July 8. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved the bank's amended articles of incorporation on June 16. "The license reflects the trust our customers have placed in us from the very start," MariBank Philippines President Siew Ghee Kung Lim said in a separate statement. "Our goal has always been to build a bank that actually works for Filipinos by being simple, reliable, and rewarding. That doesn't change. The reclassification only positions MariBank to continue innovating and reach more Filipinos over time," he added. MariBank joins six other BSP-licensed digital banks: GOTyme Bank Corp., Maya Bank Inc., Overseas Filipino Bank Inc. (OFBank), Tonik Digital Bank Inc., UNObank Inc., and UnionDigital Bank Inc. —VBL, GMA News
